Vancouver Public Schools encourages and supports a college-going culture. The district offers Advanced Placement exams free of charge so that financial challenges do not preclude student participation in a valuable opportunity. AP end-of-course exams, administered through the College Board, provide high school students with opportunities to receive college credit (awarded based on exam scores), potentially saving them hundreds of dollars.

AP students, parents and guardians will receive registration information in February for the May exams. Included in the registration process is a fee waiver for families. Although there is no direct cost to any VPS student for AP exams, the district still pays a fee per every exam that students take. The fee that the district pays is reduced for each student who qualifies for a waiver.

Families can qualify for the fee waiver if they meet federal guidelines and fill out a verification form. The form should be returned via mail or handed to one of the following AP coordinators by Thursday, March 9, 2017.

In the 2015-16 school year, 1,857 AP exams were given. VPS saved $33,456 as the result of families submitting fee waivers. The money saved supplements expansion of the AP program. AP classes are offered at every district high school.
