Hudson’s Bay High School’s Future Farmers of America nursery landscape team took home the 2018 state championship in the FFA Career Development Event in March. The team includes, pictured from left, teacher/coach Steve Lorenz, Natalie Kline, Rikiann Claypoole, Caitlyn Hansen, Max Keller and Rhianna Bohn.

The in-depth Career Development Event requires extensive knowledge of plant identification, tools and disorders; horticulture; landscape planning; and related skills. Students must work together and individually to pass practicums.

Bohn, Bay’s FFA president, received the highest score in all test areas to earn an individual state championship in the turf assessment and solutions practicum.

By claiming first place, the team earned the opportunity to compete at the national level in Indianapolis, Indiana, in October 2018.
