Besting six other teams, Hudson’s Bay High School’s Knowledge Bowl team clinched third place in the 2A division at the Washington state competition on March 19 in Arlington, Washington. Varsity team members, pictured below from left, are (top row) Matt McBroom; Nick Helmer; Jack Kearney; Adam McBroom; Iain Durovchic; (bottom row) Kendall Bottemiller, team manager; Elizabeth Bronder; and Michaela Darby, team manager. Their coach is Eric Saueracker (not pictured).
In the 2016 4A division, Skyview High Schools’ Knowledge Bowl team claimed eighth place. The varsity team includes, pictured below from left, Peter Brown, David Tommasini, team captain Austin Bryant, Alex Wen, Richard Lu, Coach Bob Brands and Utsav Kapoor.
The teams faced questions about math, science, history, languages, literature, music, geography and current events. Students first completed a 35-minute written round of 50 multiple-choice questions, followed by oral rounds of 50 questions each.
This is not the first time in recent years that either school’s Knowledge Bowl has placed well at the state competition. In 2015, Bay’s team nabbed second place in the 2A division. Skyview’s team won the 4A division in 2010.
