Teacher Lindsey Hathaway is one of two finalists in the 9-12 category and one of four finalists overall for the OnPoint Prize for Excellence in Education contest. The Skyview High School educator is the only finalist from Washington state.

OnPoint Community Credit Union will announce its two Educators of the Year at a reception on May 24 in Portland, Oregon. OnPoint will pay the winners’ mortgages for one school year, and the winners’ schools each will receive a $2,500 donation for supplies and resources.

The remaining two finalists each will receive a $2,500 award and a $1,000 donation to their schools for supplies and resources.

OnPoint pointed to Hathaway’s tenacity as one of the reasons for her selection, writing on the contest’s website that “Lindsey reaches students in any circumstance and goes above and beyond in her enthusiasm, dedication and commitment to do whatever is necessary to support her students and colleagues. Her work in AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) has made higher education possible for many of her traditionally underrepresented students.”
