As a result of Vancouver Public Schools’ weather-related closure on Jan. 4, the following changes are in effect for the current school year:

  • June 16 has been designated as a makeup day and now is the last day of school, barring additional weather-related closures. All students and staff members should report to school on that day.
  • There will be no early release on Tuesday, June 14, as originally scheduled.
  • There will be a two-hour early release on both Wednesday, June 15, and Thursday, June 16.

Graduation dates will not be affected. The last day for seniors also remains on June 9.

Other possible snow makeup days for the current school year are, in priority order, Friday, June 17; Monday, June 20; and Friday, Jan. 29.

Jan. 29 is the last option because middle and high school teachers need that day to finalize student grades. If they miss that grading day, it affects college application and scholarship deadlines for seniors, and interferes with schedule forecasting and magnet program applications.

The state of Washington requires districts to hold no less than 180 days of school per school year.
