Student-athletes from across Vancouver Public Schools competed in the winter 2016 state championships. Congratulations to the following:

Bowling

Skyview High School’s Caitlyn Hayes placed 10th in the 4A girls’ state bowling championship. Hayes led the Storm to fifth place, along with teammates Syrena Costello, Carissa Froeber, Mikayla Hahn, Caitlyn Hayes, Amanda Sieck and Tiffany Tucker. Their coach is Traci Chun.

In the 2A/3A girls’ state bowling competition, Hudson’s Bay High School’s Reagan Lorey was the top placer from Vancouver Public Schools, nabbing the fifth spot. Hudson’s Bay also placed fifth as a team. Their coach is Pam Brisby. In addition to Lorey, the team includes Kayla Ennis, Michayla Garden, Jazzie Martin, Erica Morley, Lucy Stephens and Shaylie Westmorland.

Dance/drill

Skyview High School’s dance/drill team placed second in show at the 4A state championships. Team members are Arielle Balmoja, Brianna Brown, Allyssa Brugato, Taylor Brugato, Tavion Bush, Emily Effinger, Flora Espinoza, Lillian Gaither, Maddy Graves, Mariah Guyton, Parker Hendricks, Kailee Hibbs, Audra Jensen, Camille Johnson, Rachel Koch, Olivia Mccaghren, Alyssa Olafson, Alisha Ram, Marquette Slater, Torrey Smith, Samantha Thompson, Shannon Toland, Alliyah Travis, Allison Williams, Katy Zaharov and Yazmin Zamora. The team’s head coach is Ryan Valencia.

Gymnastics

Sarah Ellis of Columbia River High School placed seventh in the all-around competition and ninth in beam at the 2A/3A state championships. The River team, coached by Alicia Green, earned third place. Varsity team members include Ellis, Jossi Bellinger, Hanna Dyer, Julie Fergus, Natalie Garcia, Nicole Gorretta, Hannah Hawn, Sierra Hayden, Samantha Hixson, Sarah McFatridge, Kenzie Moxley and Lyric West.

Swimming

Two Columbia River High School swimmers paddled to top-eight places in the boys’ 3A state swimming competition. Josh Bottelberghe (pictured above on right) was third in the 200-yard freestyle and first in the 100-yard breaststroke. Teammate Sam Walker took eighth in the 500-yard freestyle. Their coach is Alyssa Manlow (pictured above on left).

In the girls’ 4A state swimming competition, Alexann, swimming for Hudson’s Bay High School, placed second in the 50-yard freestyle and third in the 50-yard backstroke. Her coach is Cassi Grier.

Wrestling

Two VPS wrestlers placed in the state championships. Skyview High School’s Haley Horrocks took fourth place in the girls’ 170 classification. Her coach is Tori Sharpe.

Jon McMillan of Hudson’s Bay High School claimed eighth place in the boys’ 2A 126 classification. His coach is Chad Ortiz.
