High school team of the month

Fort Vancouver High School wrestling coach Saleh Batroukh has done a great job increasing program numbers and developing an identity of team unity and hard work as the team covenant! The hard work invested by the Fort athletes and coaches paid off with the first dual-match win for the Trappers in more than eight years! The Trappers did it in convincing fashion beating Hockinson High School 53 to 30. Congratulations Fort wrestlers and coaches, your hard work does not go unnoticed.

Middle school team of the month

The Jason Lee Middle School wrestling team made intentional efforts to model the district core covenants throughout the season. Trust, integrity and excellence showed up in various ways both on and off the mat. Coaches Toby Barrow and Marc Hacault focused on teaching fundamentals while making the wrestling experience positive for all of their athletes. In a predominantly male sport, Jason Lee added three female wrestlers this season. Overall, they finished with nearly a .500 record but made improvements each week. To cap off a productive season, the wrestling team partnered with the Jason Lee girls basketball team to serve meals at a homeless shelter in downtown Vancouver. Their day of service was done on the weekend, on their own time, and exemplifies the athletes and coaches found in all of our schools.
