Congratulations to Steve Vance, principal at Hough Elementary School, and Mick and Marlee Hawthorne, volunteers at Washington Elementary, who were honored with Real Heroes awards. The awards, given by the Land Here, Live Here, Learn Here program, celebrate Clark County’s vibrant educational system and its positive impact on the greater community. Vance and the Hawthornes are among 22 educators and school volunteers recognized at a reception Oct. 19. The honorees represent all area school districts, Clark College, Washington State University Vancouver and the International Air and Hospitality Academy.
Vance was recognized for his positive attitude, work ethic and leadership at Hough Elementary School. The Hawthornes, who were unable to attend the award reception, were honored for getting students to school safely by leading Washington’s walking school bus for the past 10 years.
The event was sponsored by Identity Clark County, Real Living Real Estate Group, the Port of Vancouver and NW Capital Mortgage.
