National Merit Semifinalists

Three Columbia River High School students have been named 2020 National Merit Semifinalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Abby Kinney, Noel Sims and Elizabeth Zimmerman are among the approximately 16,000 Semifinalists in the 65th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically talented high school seniors now have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million that will be awarded next spring.

Semifinalist status is based on students’ scores on the 2018 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than 1% of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.

Seven students also earned special recognition as a result of their test scores. Arianna Bollens and Miles B. Miranda, Columbia River; Liliana Boyer-Quick, Mark Dunaway, Kylie Sickles and Nathaniel Welker, Skyview High School; and Zach Bernheimer, Vancouver School of Arts and Academics; received letters of commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation in recognition of their outstanding academic promise.
