Skyview High School’s FIRST robotics team, the StormBots, received several awards and one win in its eighth season:

  • Industrial Safety and Quality awards, given at the district event at Clackamas Academy of Industrial Sciences in Oregon City, Oregon
  • First place (alliance with teams from Maple Valley and SeaTac, Washington) and Industrial Safety and Quality awards, given at the district event at Philomath High School in Philomath, Oregon

The team includes approximately 44 students and 18 adult volunteer mentors. The StormBots’ coaches are Paul Manosky and Kim Hansen.

For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, or FIRST, teams have only six weeks to design and build fully functioning robots that can compete in complex games. Participants gain a variety of skills, including CAD, wiring, programming, database management, construction, marketing and safety.
