Name and avocation converge for Symphony Koss. The accomplished violinist and pianist has received several awards and accolades over the past year:

  • A full  scholarship to attend Interlochen Arts Camp, a prestigious summer arts program. Koss will participate in the World Youth Orchestra, Advanced String Quartet and Violin Institute at the camp.
  • A win in MetroArts Inc.’s 22nd annual Van Buren Concerto Competition in April and one of nine spots in the Young Artists Debut! Concerto Concert. The winners performed under the baton of Maestro Niel DePonte and with members of Oregon Symphony Orchestra and Oregon Ballet Theater Orchestra.
  • Koss also competed in the Music Teachers National Association’s national competition. Koss, a state winner, was named the national third-place winner in the Junior String National Competition.

Koss is a freshman in the Pre-International Baccalaureate program at River. She serves in the student government and as concertmaster in the school’s orchestra. In addition, Koss volunteers at Legacy Salmon Creek Hospital and Bravo Youth Orchestra.
