student musicians and their teachers accept their award

Fourteen student-musicians were selected for the Washington Music Educators Association’s All-State/All-Northwest bands, choirs and orchestras.

McLoughlin Middle School singers Jasmine Nunez and Wilma Gawronski will join the WMEA Junior All-State Choir. Bethany Schweitzer is their choral teacher.

Ayanna Lanz, a singer from Alki Middle School, also will join the WMEA Junior All-State Choir. Ross Gulko is her choir teacher.

Violinists Flora Small and Shawn Nakayama and string bass player Rowan Laurenza, all from Vancouver School of Arts and Academics, earned spots in the WMEA Junior All-State Orchestra. String bass player Christian Ramirez of VSAA will join the WMEA All-State Orchestra. Salena Walker is the students’ string teacher.

Taught by Bethany Schweitzer, Fort Vancouver High School Center for International Studies vocalists Colwyn Beckman and Rameses Juarez-Reyes were selected for the WMEA All-State Symphonic Choir.

From Skyview High School, violinist Ella Abbruzzese and bass player William Graham were selected for WMEA All-State honors. Violinist Chloe Richter was named to the NAfME All-Northwest group. Sarah O’Mara is their string teacher.

From Columbia River High School, violinist Symphony Koss and string bass player Rina Ishii were invited to the All-Northwest Orchestra. Their teacher is Dave Chartrey.
