The Washington School Recognition Program includes honors for six Vancouver schools that made gains in academic outcomes and student attendance during the 2018-19 school year:
- Fruit Valley Community Learning Center
- Hazel Dell Elementary
- Hough Elementary
- Lincoln Elementary
- Minnehaha Elementary
- Salmon Creek Elementary
In addition, Vancouver Flex Academy was credited for closing opportunity gaps and improving graduation rates. This is Vancouver Flex Academy’s second consecutive state recognition.
The seven Vancouver schools are among 24 honored schools from Southwest Washington and 391 statewide. All schools will be acknowledged by the State Board of Education during the legislatively acknowledged Washington State School Recognition Week, April 27-May 1, 2020.
“This award demonstrates the VPS staff’s sustained commitment to supporting students, and our students’ and their families’ hard work,” said Superintendent Steve Webb. “I’m so proud of what they’ve achieved together.”
Based on the Washington School Improvement Framework, criteria for recognition factors in metrics such as growth, achievement, attendance and completion of dual credit coursework. More information about the methodology can be found on the SBE methodology web page. The program was developed by the State Board of Education, Educational Opportunity Gap Oversight and Accountability Committee and Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction.
