The facility includes two pools—a six-lane, 25-yard pool for competitive swimming and a leisure pool for use by persons with disabilities, for physical therapy and for summer swim lessons. The center is used for district swim team practices and events and is open to the public as well.

The Propstra Aquatic Center was built in 1999 thanks to a generous donation by George and Carolyn Propstra.

Join us in an exciting swim program designed to fit any age group and ability. Our program provides participants with a positive learning experience and teaches lifelong swimming skills.

Pre-registration is required for all swim lessons, if space is available. Classes fill up fast and are first come, first served. Due to our ongoing schedule, no makeup classes can be offered.

Infant and toddler lessons

Ages 6 months to 3 years with an adult
Water orientation for children 6 months to 3 years old with parent in the water. Parents assist child in basic swimming and safety skills. Nontoilet-trained children must wear swim diapers (available for purchase at the front desk).

Preschool lessons

Pre-beginners (Salamanders)
Ages 3-5 years old

Starting point for children ages 3-5. Adjust to the water and become comfortable putting face in water.

Pre-level 1 (Turtles)
Ages 3-5 years old

turtleFor children who have completed pre-beginner and/or are comfortable putting their face in the water. This class will help your child become more comfortable on their back, stomach and rolling over from one side to the other side.

Pre-level 2 (Hippo)
Ages 3-5 years old

For children who have completed pre-level 1 and/or are able to swim on their back and stomach independently. Progress to move through the water with arm strokes and kicking in preparation or side breathing.

Youth lessons

Level 1 (Walruses)
6 years and older

Image: WalrusStarting point for children 6 and up. Learn to become comfortable in the water and progress to swimming on front and back and rolling over.

Level 2 (Frogs)
6 years and older

For children who have completed level 1 and/or who are able to swim comfortably on their front and back without instructor assistance. Progress to swimming front crawl and back glide independently.

Level 3 (Manatees)
6 years and older

For children who have completed level 2 and/or are able to swim front crawl and back glide independently. Progress to swimming 25 yards front crawl with side breathing and 25 yards back crawl without instructor assistants.

Level 4 (Whales)
6 years and older

Image: WhaleFor children who have completed level 3 and/or are able to swim 25 yards front crawl with side breathing and 25 yards back crawl. Students will refine front and back crawl skills and learn elementary backstroke.

Level 5 (Flying Fish)
6 years and older

For children who have completed level 4 and/or are able to swim 50 yards front crawl with side breathing and 50 yards back crawl and elementary back stroke. Students will refine breast stroke and sidestroke skills and learn the butterfly stroke.
