Medical Arts
A healthy future starts here
How many bones are in the human skeleton? What’s the difference between an EKG and an echocardiogram? Is it better to tape an ankle sprain or brace it?
If you’ve ever wondered about the complex web of systems governing the human mind and body, the Medical Arts magnet at Fort Vancouver High School may be the place for you. In this program you’ll begin learning concepts and skills that could lead to a technical, two- or four-year college experience and, eventually, a career in the growing health care field.
Medical Arts students in ninth through 12th grades take four core classes: Health Sciences and Careers, Athletic Medicine, Medical Terminology and Psychology and Health Issues. Juniors and seniors in good academic standing are eligible to participate in four hours of fieldwork. Students also have opportunities to participate in community events.
Participation in this program can give you an advantage when it comes to college, too. Medical Arts students have opportunities to earn up to 17 credits through Clark College.
Application process
Apply online during the magnet program application period, which typically begins in mid-January. If the deadline to apply has passed, please inquire about availability by contacting the Medical Arts coordinator.
