Budget Challenge

The past two weeks have been a difficult time for our school district, and we know that emotions are high with feelings such as disappointment, frustration and anger about reducing staff. Each person employed by VPS plays a valuable role in making our students’ lives and learning experiences better. 
 

Here are a few answers to common questions we have received:

  • We are eliminating staff positions at every level across our district. You can see the full details of the reductions HERE.

  • There are processes that we must follow to reduce our staff in our labor union agreements.

  • We will redistribute staff to match the enrollment and needs of schools for next year.  We monitor class sizes to make sure that our staff are distributed equitably across the district.  A lot of work happens between now and next school year to make that happen.

Nothing will lessen the disappointment and frustration of this situation, but we invite you to review the information on our budget page.  




Applications for Elementary Options Close on April 19
We offer a number of different experiences for elementary students, including dual-language programs and project-based learning. Please explore these different options for your incoming kindergarten student. 
 
All students must first register for kindergarten at their neighborhood school. Once you have completed the registration process, fill out an application for a dual-language or immersion program at your neighborhood school, or apply to one of our Elementary Choice Schools. 
 
Please note: Applications are due on Friday, April 19 by 4 p.m.

ParentSquare App
The ParentSquare App is the best way to communicate with your school and teachers about what’s happening in your school and classroom.
 
Once registered you will be able to: 

  • Use the messaging feature 

  • Set email, text and app notifications

  • RSVP for classroom and school activities

ESD112 Art Show Honorees

Several VPS students participated in ESD 112's Regional High School Art Show. From paint to clay, students used their chosen medium to create some wonderful works of art.

Retos presupuestarios
Las últimas dos semanas has sido difíciles para nuestro distrito y sabemos que hay emociones fuertes como de decepción, frustración y coraje por el recorte de personal.  Cada persona empleada por VPS tiene un papel valioso en mejorar las vidas y experiencias de aprendizaje de nuestros estudiantes. 

Aquí les brindamos respuestas a preguntas comunes que hemos recibido:  

  • Estamos eliminando puestos de personal a cada nivel en todo el distrito. Pueden ver información completa de las reducciones aquí.

  • Hay procesos que debemos seguir para reducir nuestro personal en los acuerdos de nuestros sindicatos laborales. 

  • Redistribuiremos el personal de acuerdo al número de estudiantes inscritos y  necesidades de las escuelas para el próximo año.  Hacemos un seguimiento del número de estudiantes en los salones para asegurarnos que nuestro personal es distribuido equitativamente en todo el distrito. Se requiere mucho trabajo de aquí al próximo año escolar para llegar a realizarlo.  

Nada disminuirá la decepción y frustración que causa esta situación, pero los invitamos a revisar la información en nuestra pá gina de información presupuestaria.  




El periodo para enviar las solicitudes para ingreso en escuelas primarias electivas cierra el 19 de abril
Ofrecemos un número de diferentes experiencias para estudiantes a nivel de primaria, incluyendo programas de lenguaje dual y aprendizaje basado en la realización de proyectos. Po r favor considere las diferentes opciones para su estudiante que entrará al kindergarten.  
 
Todos los estudiantes deben primero inscribirse para Kindergarten en su escuela de vecindario. 
Una vez que hayan completado el proceso de inscripción, pueden entonces llenar una solicitud de ingreso para un programa de lenguaje dual o programa de inmersión en su escuela de vecindario o llenar una solicitud de ingreso a una de las Escuelas de Elección.  
 
Nota importante: Las solicitudes de ingreso deben entregarse a más tardar el viernes, 19 de abril a las 4:00 p.m.

Aplicación de "ParentSquare"
La aplicación "ParentSquare" es la mejor manera de comunicarse con su escuela y maestros sobre lo que está sucediendo en su escuela y en el salón de clases. 
Una vez que se haya registrado podrá:

  • Utilizar la opción de mensajes 

  • Configurar notificaciones para correos electrónicos y mensajes de texto

  • Reservar participación para actividades en el salón de clases y la escuela

Последние две недели были трудными для нашего школьного района, и мы знаем, что накал эмоций очень высок потому, что многие испытывают чувства разочарования, отчаяния и гнева по поводу сокращения штатов. Каждый сотрудник VPS играет важную роль в улучшении жизни и условий обучения наших учеников.

Вот несколько ответов на часто задаваемые нам вопросы:

Мы сокращаем должности на всех уровнях в нашем школьном районе.  Вы можете ознакомиться с подробностями плана сокращений по ссылке HERE .

Мы должны следовать определённым правилам сокращения штатов согласно контрактам с профсоюзами.

Мы перераспределим сотрудников в соответствии с нуждами школ в следующем учебном году. Мы следим за размером классов для того, чтобы сотрудники были равномерно распределены по всему школьному району. Для этого нам предстоит проделать много работы до начала следующего учебного года.

19 апреля - Последний день подачи заявлений в начальные школы по выбору 
Мы предлагаем несколько различных программ для учеников начальной школы, включая двуязычные программы и обучение на основе выполнения проектов. Пожалуйста, ознакомьтесь с этимиразличными программами по выбору. Please  explore these different options для Вашего ученика, поступающего в киндергартен. 

Все ученики должны сначала зарегистрироваться в киндергартен в своей школе по месту жительства. All students must first register for kindergarten at their neighborhood school. После того, как Вы завершите процесс регистрации, Вы можете заполнить заявление на двуязычную программу или программу с погружением в своей школе по месту жительства, или подать заявление в одну из наших школ по выбору (Choice Schools).
