Student-broadcasters from Columbia River High School earned top honors in the sports-live event category of the 2020 Northwest Regional Student Production Awards. Their win was announced on June 6 for their coverage of an earlier boys’ basketball game against Woodland. The winning crew includes Jaelyn Gaylor, director; Jordan Ryan, announcer; Tarren Orr, graphics; David Ryan, instant replay; Keegan Duke, camera; Emery Leifeste, camera; and Michael Ryan, camera. Janine Blackwell is their adviser.
This is the school’s fourth consecutive year of earning nominations and second consecutive year of prevailing in the Northwest Regional Student Production Awards. This year, Columbia River’s broadcast crew also was nominated a second time in the sports-live event category for a football game against RA Long and in the magazine category for their production of “CR News: Fall Quarter.”
The Regional Student Production Awards are given by the Northwest chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences—the same organization that recognizes excellence in television through the Emmy Awards.
The CR Sports crew’s work on the basketball game broadcast also went on to earn a nomination in the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ 2020 National Student Production Awards.
