Congratulations to Vancouver School of Arts and Academics’ Sameayah Pehlke! In February, Pehlke, pictured above on left, nabbed one of two top places in the regional Poetry Out Loud competition.
On March 7, she again found success in poetry recitation as the sole Clark County representative in the statewide competition. After nearly six months of preparation, she faced off against 12 other regional champions in Olympia, Washington.
Although she did not claim the top spot to represent Washington in the national competition, she did leave with an honorable mention.
Poetry Out Loud is a national arts education program that encourages young people to learn and perform all forms of poetry through memorization and performance. In Washington state, it is coordinated by ArtsWA, the Washington State Arts Commission.
Students select their poems from an anthology of more than 800 classic and contemporary poems.
