Jump into kindergarten
Kindergarten Jump Start is a free program for incoming kindergarteners that takes place a few weeks before the school year begins. Students participate in a variety of math, literacy and hands-on activities; learn school routines; and become familiar with their new surroundings.
Data shows that students who attend Jump Start are better prepared for kindergarten than children who do not participate. They also gain confidence, leadership skills and enthusiasm for school. Don’t miss this opportunity to give your child a successful transition to kindergarten!

Frequently asked questions
Not only do Jump Start students begin the school year better prepared for kindergarten instruction, they also develop confidence and leadership skills. Good attendance habits developed during Jump Start can create a foundation for academic achievement throughout a child’s education.
Jump Start also gives parents a boost, too. Parents have opportunities to conference with their children’s teachers and learn about school procedures such as buses and lunch payments.
If the school office is closed for the summer, you can sign up your child on the first day of Jump Start.
Note: Parents who sign up their children for Jump Start also will be asked to register their children for kindergarten. Please allow up to one hour and bring the following documentation:
- Proof of the child’s birth date
- Immunization records
- Emergency contact information
If you do not have this information, each elementary school secretary can assist you with obtaining it.
Contact the elementary school that your child will attend for more information and a registration form.

“Loved having the opportunity to meet most of my kids. Of my 25 kids I will have in September, 24 registered for Jump Start, and I have now met 23 of the 25 kids face-to-face through conferencing or Jump Start.”
“The 17-day program is awesome, and allowing kids to ‘jump in’ as soon as they enroll also was very helpful to those kids and families.”
