History teacher John Zingale brings the past to life for his middle school students at Vancouver iTech Preparatory. His hands-on teaching style recently earned Zingale the distinction of top middle school history teacher in the country, an award given by the Sons of the American Revolution.
The school’s location on the Washington State University Vancouver campus is unique in the state and supports iTech’s early college model with access to college classes.

“I think it’s a great day, to be honest. Our school is starting to come true,” said junior Fahad Hamad, who started at iTech in 2013 as a sixth-grader.
